 Consultation on Enlargement of School

Under School Organisation regulations any significant increase in a school’s capacity requires a consultation to be undertaken. We are consulting on the proposal to increase capacity at Kingskerswell Church of England Primary (Voluntary Controlled) to 420 places with effect from the end of November 2015.  The planned admission number will be 60 for 2015/16.

Kingskerswell School currently has a net capacity of 315 places.  The proposed increase to 420 constitutes a significant enlargement under school organisation regulations and is therefore subject to a statutory process of consultation.  The School is being expanded to cope with demand and new development proposed for the area, as identified in the Teignbridge Local Plan.

A successful bid to the Government secured capital funding under the Targeted Basic Need Funding scheme which provides additional capital funding for school places in areas where they are most needed.  Phase 1 of the development of the School has been completed and Phase 2 has recently been agreed.

The allocation of places will be managed through the admissions process to ensure that parental preference is met as far as is possible and that schools are treated equitably.
