Once school starting places have been allocated, the school will receive a list of new students for September admission. Once we have this list, the Early Years leader will visit feeder pre-schools and nurseries in the summer term to begin the transition process.
In the June prior to your start date, the Early Years leader will send out the school prospectus and admissions paperwork. We will also ask you to call the school to arrange a home visit. The purpose of the home visit is for you to share any key information (i.e. medical information, existing friendship, groups, preferences for classes and concerns) and for us to ask key questions to ensure a smooth transition in to school. At the home visit, we will also leave a ‘starting school’ document, written in child friendly language, outlining the expectations for school and answers some frequently asked questions.
As part of the transition in to school we will arrange for a single morning visit in July. This will take place after the home visit. Following this, there will be a parent information morning, where you can come in to school and meet the Headteacher, forest school leader, PTFA and parents of current reception teachers. Should you wish to arrange additional visits for your child, you can do this by contacting the school office on 01803 873398.
In September the arrangements for settling in are;
- First and Second Days – 8:45 until 12pm (no school lunch)
- Third and Fourth Days – 8:45-1:15pm (staying for school lunch)
- Fifth Day – whole day 8:45am-3:20pm
- Full time starting the following week.
If you feel that you child is struggling to settle, or may need a more tailored settling in period, please arrange to speak to the Early Years Team Leader, who will be happy to meet with you to discuss alternative arrangements if necessary.
